In 2022 we won an invited architectural competition for a new congregation center in Piikkiö, near Turku.
Old congregation center, built in the 1970-s and enlarged in the ’90-s, had a ventilated brick facade, partly flat roof with no eaves and was so severely damaged by humidity and mold that its further use was prohibited. Estimated cost of its reparation works turned out to be unreasonably high.
Within the competition brief there were 3 rather unusual requirements presented by the client:
- No flat rood was accepted;
- The roof had to have reasonably wide eaves;;
- Exterior walls needed to be built as homogeneous massive masonry walls. Alternatively massive wooden log walls would have been acceptable too.
Design period lasted for about 1 year and the entire building process took about 14 months.
